Thornton Returns to Action with World of Outlaws at Smoky Mountain

Saturday night found Ricky Thornton Jr. returning to the seat of his SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Dyno One Inc./ Excel Floor Covering/ Sub-Surface of Indiana/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn.

Drawing a stout field of 51 World of Outlaws Late Model Series entries for the 9th Annual Tennessee Tipoff, Thornton laid down the sixth fastest lap in his qualifying group before picking up a heat race win to earn a spot in the redraw.

Starting the $12,000-to-win A-Main in fourth, Thornton faded to a 13th place finish in the 50-lap affair.
