Thornton Opens 2021 Lucas Oil Campaign at All-Tech

Ricky Thornton Jr. kicked off his season with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series over the weekend at All-Tech Raceway (Lake City, Fla.) in the SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Dyno One Inc./ Excel Floor Covering/ Sub-Surface of Indiana/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

After Mother Nature nixed Friday night’s program, the team shifted their focus to Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale. Thornton started his night by timing in fourth-fastest in his qualifying group to earn the second starting position for his heat race. Unfortunately, contact with an infield tire during the heat would result in him slipping to a fifth-place finish, sending him to a B-Main.

Starting the B-Main in fourth, Ricky advanced to a third-place finish, falling just one spot short of a transfer position into the 50-lap A-Main.
