Top-5 finish at Bristol Motor Speedway

Ricky Thornton Jr. was back behind the wheel of the SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model on Friday afternoon at Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) as the XR Super Series 2022 campaign came to life with the Bristol Dirt Nationals. Drawing 37 Late Models for the two-day event, Ricky secured his spot into the opening night feature with a second-place finish in his heat. For another $50,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday, Thornton Jr. laid down the third-fastest time in his group before placing second in his heat race. Carrying a steady pace throughout the 50-lap feature, Ricky notched a fifth-place finish. He trailed Chris Ferguson, Scott Bloomquist, Ricky Weiss, and Jonathan Davenport to the checkers.
