Thornton opens Topless 100 with prelim win, third in finale on Saturday
Following the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to Arkansas, Ricky Thornton Jr. unloaded the SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model at Batesville Motor Speedway (Batesville, Ark.) on Friday for a preliminary event to kick off the 41st annual Comp Cams Topless 100 weekend.
With a heat victory placing him on the front row for Friday’s prelim, Thornton fended off Tim McCreadie and Jonathan Davenport after several late-race restarts to register his 25th win of the season and 15th career LOLMDS triumph. He earned $5,000 ahead of McCreadie, Davenport, Dale McDowell, and Devin Moran.
Starting on the pole for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Topless 100 finale, Ricky lost two spots in the 100-lap affair to place third. He followed Dale McDowell and Jonathan Davenport across the line with Devin Moran and Tim McCreadie completing the top-five finishers.
Ricky has built a 350-point margin over Hudson O'Neal atop the latest LOLMDS point standings.
