Fifth-place finish in Volunteer 50 prelim at Bulls Gap
Ricky Thornton Jr. returned to the driver’s seat of SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model on Friday evening for the two-day Volunteer 50 at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.).
Gunning for a $5,000 payday in his preliminary feature on Friday, Thornton rolled to a fifth-place finish in the 25-lapper.
Locked on the fifth row for Saturday night’s $50,050-to-win Volunteer 50 A-Main, Ricky climbed two positions to finish seventh.
Earlier in the week, Thornton added a pair of Micro starts as Indiana Micro Week kicked off across the state.
After mechanical issues prevented him from transferring into Monday's opener at Miami County Raceway (Peru, Ind.), Ricky raced to a third-place finish in Wednesday's A-Main at Bartholomew County Fairgrounds' Tony Stewart Speedway (Columbus, Ind.).
