Fifth-place finish in USA Nationals preliminary feature at Cedar Lake
Ricky Thornton Jr.’s stint with Rumley Racing continued on Friday afternoon at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.) for the 37th annual USA Nationals weekend.
After Mother Nature shifted Thursday’s preliminary event to Friday afternoon, Ricky’s prelim feature ended early on lap 15 after getting collected in a three-car tangle. He was scored 24th in the final rundown.
Later Friday night, Thornton backed up a third-place heat finish with a 13th-to-5th run in his 25-lap prelim. He chased Ryan Gustin, Brandon Sheppard, Jonathan Davenport, and Brian Shirley to the checkers.
He also competed in the F.A.N.S Fund Dash on Friday where he climbed two positions in the 12-lapper to place second. The 11-car field selected by fans competed for the $2,500 top prize.
Ricky’s USA Nationals weekend concluded on Saturday night with an eighth-place finish in the $50,000-to-win rain-shortened 56-lap A-Main.
